About this category

Focused funds invest in a maximum of 30 stocks. While some funds stick only to large-cap stocks, most invest across market capitalisations. The high concentration in each stock, especially in the top few, allow the fund to squeeze out more benefits from a rally of a stock than funds with more diffused holdings. However, the fall of a stock can also have a heavy impact on performance. These funds, therefore, can deliver much higher than multi-cap funds but may also be more volatile. The 500 or the BSE 500 can be used as benchmarks to measure performance.

Suitability

Focused funds suit investors with moderate to high risk appetites. The minimum period for which these funds need to be held is 5 years.
